I just attended the year end online business meeting with some of my favorite authors in a large science fiction/fantasy guild. They had different chat rooms open for actual business and informal chatting. They gave year end progress and awards. I was honored for one of my older designs called "Sime Girl". Apparently it is still a big seller at science fiction conventions around the world. I don't keep up with the exact sales, it just goes directly into my paypal account with various other projects I am involved in but glad to see it is doing well. I also won the Arensti art award for the year in science fiction art. What is cool is this award is awarded to me by various authors.
Sime Gen Inc. has been meeting with various movie studios in the past couple of months with screenplays about their science fiction universe and Jean Lorrah said that it looks very promising so we might have a movie in the works. What is cool is that I own a little bit of stock in this company.
I also commented that a graphic novel/comic is another way to get it these books out other than in novel stories and the CEOs liked that and we need to discuss that further.
We also discussed kindle and ebooks. The publishing industry, fiction and nonfiction and illustrations in the coming electronic book market. Apparently it isn't as easily done as print. I did not realize this but they are having problems with ebook illustrations in the industry as a whole translating from one format to another correctly. I have done 4 ebook book covers and I am guessing it went ok. The publisher liked them and they sold well. But then I believe they were just for one format. The ebook is still young and I am sure it will get easier as it goes.
Anyway, it was nice to chat with the "biggies" in the industry and see what they are doing and be a part of it.
I checked my email this morning and I had a message from an author wanting me to do the cover of her series of novels for young adults. I emailed her back and said it is a go and if she wants interior illustrations I can do that too!
What a way to start off a year! Game illustrations and book illustrations! I haven't had time to do much free time art lately to post on here. I have a couple of large paintings unfinished I keep messing with but want to get right and I am finishing up a portrait for a show in New York and I have other shows in the works.
I have had my work reviewed by some galleries around the country and have gotten some responses for shows that I am now trying to get the work done for them by the exhibit dates. Gallery shows are a lot of fun. I just started doing this about 4 months ago and my work is being accepted in many places. The thing is to find the right gallery for your work. I don't even try galleries that show mainly FFL ( Flowers, Fruit and Landscapes).
I spent ALL day yesterday working on my website and still am not finished with it. Today I have to get all of my hyperlinks up and then I think I will give it a test run and see how badly I did.
I am finishing up a piece for a gallery show in Brooklyn, NY to be sent off at the end of next month and it will also be published in an artbook. I was considering another show in a Seattle gallery that likes my work but I don't know now. I have been hired to do the bosses for a mobile phone RPG game and will start the illustrations soon and I do like to concentrated on one thing at a time when I first start something. I like doing things right for the company hiring me.
The contract is being drawn up about the game and when I get the descriptions and the posed I will let ya'll know how that is going. It is a fantasy RPG game, and I am assuming in the style of classic FF turnbase action. So far that is what I imagine it to be but I will be getting the descriptions shortly. I will be doing various poses for each boss and they will be animated in that style. As I get into the project I will post more. I have done a lot of cards for various RPG games and this sounds like a lot of fun and it is slightly different. I am looking forward to it.
