Little Orange Riding Hood?


Let me explain...As I started this I started the cloak in a very low opacity in the layer. As this color came out I realized that it perfectly mimiced the illustration color in the late 1800 and early 1900 school textbooks that I so loved to read as a child.

Now, the real story of Little Red is no longer in textbooks. They would rather kids read about a kid living in the inner city or some thinly veiled environmental agenda than traditional childhood tales. Yes, the originals were scary, told morals, were pure fantasy but that is what kids loved and still love. I find it amazing that the third grader back in 1906 were reading Greek mythology. If you asked a kid today about Narcissus, Thesus or any other Greek character they would look at you funny unless you mentioned Hercules and they had seen the latest Disney installment.


But, I digress.....While the colors are more late 19th century to early 20th, the adult nature of the characters are not.....but I believe the real story to be just that. A story of warning of luring and seduction, be it by a wolf or a beautiful lady, it is still the same. What looks inviting, tempting and good might do you deadly harm. Just who is the bad guy here, the wolf, girl or both? ( I'd say both)

I really love the look of coloring my pencil work....it adds a more traditional/different look to photoshop.
