Please forgive the scan lines. I was sent a photo of a tattoo on a guy's arm of an angel, I believe it was female, with flowers on her wings and she was holding flowers up to her chest. She had these funky, round, scary eyes and a weird shadow on her face and a hint of a horn. I was to take the tattoo and follow it in style as far as the wings and the facial expression and add a sword and so forth.
I did follow the style of shading the best I could and added a heavy outline to the figure since the one that he liked was shaded and outlined that way. Anyway, here is the first tattoo and I tried to get it as close to the idea of the guy getting it as I possibly could.

nice!! I really like the detail part of the hair! Will this be done in B&W or in colour? The wings are neat too. I assume that the sword will go down the arm and the wings wrap front and back of the shoulder?
His facial expression is nice too - it's like he's an arch angel. He may need a bit more shading on his hands though. THey look a bit big - maybe because they are so pale compared to his face. I think this will make a really nice tattoo.

I'm confused......... wait ......... maybe I'm not
I am unsure of the shading all around, not only on the hands...I was afraid I was getting too dark. The hair is done the way that the girl's hair on the tattoo he liked is done. Yes, the sword will go down the arm. The original it is a little longer but I didn't have room to to the entire sword..hopefully his tattoo artist can finish the blade..it shouldn't be too hard. Hmm, I was trying to get the idea that the hands were closer..do they look way too big? I will recheck..
I was wondering if they were supposed to be closer to the viewer and so maybe a bit larger. That might also explain why they are lighter.
Maybe if there was a little more shading on the torso under neath them it would give a greater sense of depth and shadow. Wait a minute.......... ok - what if there was more shading on the second bend of the fingers?? that way the top of the hands would be lighter where they are facing the sky, and the rest of the fingers would be facing the viewer, therefore with more shadow.
I'm not sure.... I'm certainly no expert at this. but I think that might give a sense of "coming forward" rather than pointing downwards.
I think it's really great though! LOVE the wings!

Ok, I wanted to do more shading on the torso but again, I am unsure of what the tattoo artist will want to do or be able to do...soo...if I darken the torso and the second bend of the finger, you don't think it would be too dark for the artist? As I was coloring the fingers I was kind of wondering about darkening the fingers...maybe I will darken the tops too if I can figure out how to get the bones and the veins to show correctly. Thanks, I will work on it...now watch him not like it!!
